Conference AIR, WATER, SOIL: WHAT ALTERNATIVES? ALTERNATIVE METHODS IN ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY. Brescia (Italy), May 25th, 2017

The Conference will be organized by CELLTOX (Italian Society of In Vitro Toxicology) and MISTRAL (Interdepartmental Centre for Integrated Models for Prevention and Protection in Environmental and Occupational Health) at the University of Brescia.

In accordance with European and international regulations, environmental monitoring and risk assessment will have to adopt alternative strategies to the use of animal models.
This conference is intended to offer an overview of various and innovative models of study, even integrated, not based on the experimental use of animals, able to provide reliable and predictive answers about the impact of environmental pollutants and biotoxins on various environmental matrices (air, fresh and sea water, and soil).

In this context, Harmful algal blooms (HABs) have been a well discussed topic in recent years because of the changes in their frequency, intensity, and geographic extent with direct impacts on human and environmental health.
Addressing the new challenge for the development of rapid and reliable tools for algal risk assessment, ATS will present the recently developed in vitro assay for the evaluation of the toxicity of dinoflagellate Ostreopsis cf Ovata.
